Lesson plans
Our waterwise experience lesson plans build on what is covered in our interactive and immersive school incursions, providing students with the opportunity to learn more about water sustainability.
Below you can find a range of lesson plans appropriate for Year 7 students.
Year 7
Different perspectives - English
Students will investigate different gaming platforms which are used to inspire and educate about sustainability. They will further their learning by watching a film about the challenges of life without clean water and reflect on these by designing their own game.
Our city - English
Students will investigate world class water innovations to understand how they work and how they are being applied, both locally and internationally.
Space - English
Students will use their imaginations to create an alternative world in space. Humans will need to be persuaded to depart an unsustainable Earth to a new life on Mars by 2030.
Different perspectives - HASS
Students will engage with the story of a remote village in Kenya to learn of their struggles with water scarcity. By comparing their own lifestyles, students will gain an appreciation for WA’s water supply. They will deep dive into issues close to home, such as drought and investigate the ways water is being secured for our future.
Our city - HASS
Students will explore urban planning of the world’s most liveable cities, including Perth. They will further their local perspective by creating a 3D tour of the urban water cycle, and a 3D model to understand the water treatment process.
Space - HASS
Earth has many precious resources, some renewable and many not. Students will research these and then identify factors for liveability, linking it to the design of their own Planet B.
Different perspectives - Science
Life is very different for people across the world depending on their access to fresh, clean water. Students will begin to understand the impact clean water accessibility has on communities and investigate ways to improve this access, including designing their own filter to provide clean water.
Our city - Science
Students will explore urban planning of the world’s most liveable cities, including Perth. They will further their local perspective by creating a 3D tour of the urban water cycle, and a 3D model to understand the water treatment process.
Space - Science
Students will imagine what it would be like to live on Mars and determine the resources required to sustain a space settlement. They will design a water-resourced space station and wastewater recovery system to provide a sustainable drinking water source.
