A highly ornamental, medium, evergreen tree to 8 metres high and 4 metres wide with a single trunk with smooth, light bark becoming rough and flaky at the base. Dense, dark green leaves and bright red flower caps in autumn fall to reveal golden-yellow flowers. Large nuts follow the flowers. In large quantities, these weigh down the branches. Bird attractant. May be hard pruned if necessary.
