Water Corporation has welcomed 35 students into its Undergraduate Vacation Employment Program, to soak up knowledge from the utility’s employees over the next 12 weeks.

 

Over the past 20 years, more than 300 undergraduates have taken part in the program, which was voted as one of the top intern programs by Australian Association of Graduate Employers in 2018. Undergraduates

 

Water Corporation CEO, Sue Murphy, said she was encouraged this year’s cohort included 16 female undergraduates.

 

“It’s great to see 35 undergraduates learning about how water is the lifeblood of Western Australia, and hopefully inspiring them to start a career in the water industry,” Ms Murphy said.

 

“We ensure undergraduates go out and visit our critical assets including desalination plants and pumping stations so they are able to develop a good understanding of the scale and importance of the work we undertake at Water Corporation for our two million-plus customers.

 

“We expect a lot from our undergraduates and a significant number go onto employment in Water Corporation’s three-year graduate program.

 

“We have around 150 people across Water Corporation who are part of our career entry programs – from graduates, to trainees and apprentices – we’re committed to sharing knowledge and bringing new talent on board.

 

“Our career entry programs offer excellent training and development opportunities and access to leading edge technology.

 

“These people are potentially future leaders of the water industry and they always make an enormous contribution during their time with us – I hope the 35 undergraduates enjoy their time at Water Corporation.”
