As at 19:00, Wednesday, 3 February 2021
Water Corporation is prepared and actively working round the clock to ensure the provision of essential water and wastewater services to areas affected by the Wooroloo bushfire.
However, we cannot guarantee that water pressure or water supply will be maintained during a bushfire. Heat damage or loss of power can cause water pumps that transfer water to fail and high demand can quickly empty water tanks.
To help maintain supply, we have pre-emptively installed mobile generators at pumping stations deemed a potential risk but our crews can only access them for maintenance or repair when deemed safe to do so.
We continue to work with DFES to maximise the firefighting water supply and to minimise the impact of any outages. However, no mains water supply network is designed for firefighting.
Increased water demand during a bushfire can stir up sediment in pipes. This can make the water look discoloured or cloudy but it is harmless and the water is safe to use.
Our thoughts are with everyone directly affected by the bushfire.
