Water Corporation offers range of work experiences for Aboriginal graduates

Starting out in the workforce after completing your university degree can be a daunting task, but that’s a journey three Aboriginal graduates are undertaking at Water Corporation.

Water Corporation’s Graduate Program is recognised as one of the best across Australia – maintaining its position as the seventh (out of 75) Top Graduate Employers for the past two years.

These graduates come from regional towns across Western Australia and will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in a number of roles relevant to their discipline over the next three years.

Taylor Hayward is a Commerce Graduate from the South West town of Collie. Taylor said he was most excited about the opportunity to work in all the different areas of Water Corporation’s diverse business.

“The most rewarding and exciting part to the graduate program is the ability to experience multiple parts of the business throughout the duration of the program,” Taylor said.

“This is something that not many people get in their professional careers.”

This was echoed by Devyn Jackamarra, who is a Civil Engineer Graduate from the Mid West town of Moora.

“I’m most excited to be able to contribute to solving real life problems through my work at Water Corporation,” Devyn said.

Kalgoorlie raised Jordan Grljusich is now a Graduate Mechanical Engineer at Water Corporation.

“As I progressed through high school and noticed my strengths and enjoyment for math and science I decided Engineering would be the career for me,” Jordan said.

Jordan has encouraged other graduates to apply for Water Corporation’s program and make the most of the different roles graduates get to experience.

“Make the most of your rotation opportunity while you can. You can often get so swept up in the role that your time flies by so quickly. Take a step back to assess what skills you are learning and reflect on your experiences so far,” Jordan said.

Water Corporation also offers a 12 week Undergraduate Vacation Employment Program, for university students in the second or third year of their degree.

Aboriginal Electrical Engineering undergraduate, Mike Power, from Curtin University said he was attracted to the undergraduate program at Water Corporation because of the service it provides to the community.

“Water Corporation is a place that makes a positive environmental impact providing a service everybody needs,” Mike said.
