• Pump station electrical cabinets to be blank canvasses for Western Australian artists

  • Water Corporation's Splash of Colour program begins this week in Busselton, Bunbury and Margaret River

A State Government project to bring Water Corporation assets in highly visible locations to life, with the help of local artists, returns to the South-West region this week.

The Splash of Colour Community Art Program will transform four of the Water Corporation's everyday water and wastewater electrical cabinets into public art pieces.

Pump station electrical cabinets will be painted over the next four weeks in prominent locations  along Ocean Drive and Picton Road in Bunbury, Simon Street in Busselton and Rendall Close in Margaret River.

The four local artists selected to transform the cabinets are Andrew Frazer (Ocean Drive, Bunbury), Luke O'Donohoe (Picton Road, Bunbury), Sharon Hinchliffe (Simon Street, Busselton) and Lori Pensini (Rendall Close, Margaret River).

The artists will be taking inspiration from local communities, with the Water Corporation organising workshops with Bunbury Catholic College, Busselton Senior High School's Offsite Senior School and Margaret River Senior High School. These workshops will enable students to share ideas about the connection to water in their community, which will be reflected in the designs.

Comments attributed to Water Minister Dave Kelly:

"It is great to see the State Government's Splash of Colour arts program return to the South-West to transform more dull grey Water Corporation cabinets into vibrant, water themed art

"The program began as a trial last year in the South-West with eight cabinets painted. The feedback was so overwhelmingly positive, it has now been rolled out across Western Australia.

"The Water Corporation's work with schools will provide valuable insights into local culture so the art reflects the beauty and uniqueness of the South-West."

Comments attributed to Bunbury MLA Don Punch:

"Over recent years, Bunbury has become known for its wide and varied collection of street art and this project will add to that community asset.

"Bunbury is a creative community so it is great to see the Water Corporation tapping into that for this community project."
