Water Corporation grey cabinets in Albany to be splashed with colour

• Water Corporation's Splash of Colour program makes a start in Albany this week with the help of local students and the community

A State Government project to bring Water Corporation assets in highly visible locations to life, with the help of local artists, will begin in Albany this week.

The Splash of Colour Community Art Program will transform five of the Water Corporation's everyday water and wastewater electrical cabinets into public art pieces.

Pump station electrical cabinets will be painted over the next four weeks in prominent locations along York Street and Port Road in the Albany central business district, Le Grande Avenue in Orana, Firth Street in Emu Point, and Garden Street in Middleton Beach.

Four local artists have been selected to take part in the program, with more than 25 applications put forward.  The artists selected to transform the cabinets are Karlee Bertola and Cody Hulkes (Albany CBD), Chad Marwick (Orana and Emu Point), and Glenn Hegedus (Middleton Beach and Emu Point).

The artists will be taking inspiration from the local community, with the Water Corporation organising two workshops with Albany Senior High School and the Albany Youth Support Association to hear their ideas about the community's connection to water.

So far, 16 Water Corporation assets across Western Australia have been turned into community art pieces through the Splash of Colour program.
