Water assets in Town of Port Hedland splashed with colour

• State Government is transforming pump stations and other assets in the North-West
• Program enlisted Aboriginal artists and Karratha youth to help with designs 

Vibrant murals have replaced the muted tones of two pump stations and the surge vessels in the Town of Port Hedland thanks to the State Government, through the Water Corporation's Splash of Colour program.

Water Minister Dave Kelly yesterday (August 26) inspected the beautiful works of art while in Port Hedland.

Throughout July and August, artists across the North-West transformed everyday water and wastewater assets into colourful creations that express the local community's connection to water.

Students from Baynton West Primary School helped shape the artworks in Karratha with their interpretation of the importance of water to their way of life.

Aboriginal artists in Broome have painted the intake tower at the wastewater treatment plant on Clementson Street, which can be seen by visitors when using the Water Corporation's birdwatching hut.

The Water Corporation began Splash of Colour as a trial in the South-West last year, and the program has since expanded in response to the overwhelmingly positive community feedback. 

To date, 34 assets across the State have been turned into community art pieces.
