Water Corporation will soon start work on an upgrade to wastewater infrastructure in Beckenham.

Water Corporation General Manager Assets Delivery, Nick Churchill, said the project would cater for population growth within the City of Gosnells.

“This important project ensures for decades to come residents will have access to reliable wastewater services to safely remove wastewater from their homes to be treated,’’ Mr Churchill said.

Starting in mid-February, Water Corporation will begin construction of 1 kilometre of wastewater main along Wimbledon Street from the corner of Ladywell Street, continuing along Harris and Bromley streets and ending at Beckenham Street.

The project will also involve construction of a new wastewater pump station, which will be located below the ground in the reserve between Wimbledon and Ladywell Streets.

Mr Churchill said trenchless technology would be used to drill underneath Albany Highway to minimise the impact on traffic.

“We have planned work to minimise impacts on traffic where possible. Traffic management will be in place with many streets reduced to one lane during construction,” Mr Churchill said.

“I thank the community and road users for their patience while we carry out this essential work.’’

The project is expected to be completed by July 2018.
