Two Joondalup schools celebrate a decade of waterwise education

Two Joondalup schools celebrated 10 years taking part in Water Corporation’s Waterwise Schools Program at a special assembly on Friday, 16 February 2018.

Over the past decade teachers at Joondalup Primary School and Joondalup Education Support Centre have been educating students on the need to value, protect and conserve water resources.

Water Corporation General Manager Customer and Community Group, Catherine Ferrari, thanked the schools for sharing the waterwise message.

“In our drying climate it’s important the next generation are aware of how precious water is and Joondalup Primary School and Joondalup Education Support Centre have been sharing this message for 10 years,” Ms Ferrari said.

"Students are the water users of the future, so it is vital teachers continue to educate students about the value of water. 

“Thank you to students and teachers for your dedication to the program.”

Sandra Bennett is the Waterwise Coordinator for both schools and said students’ awareness of water issues had fostered an attitude of accountability throughout the school.

“Our students have embraced the waterwise message with the installation of water tanks, a vegetable garden and nature play areas that are accessible to all,” Ms Bennett said.

“The students are far more aware of the need to value water in the school, home and community environments.”
