State Government grant scheme continues to benefit the Kimberley
- State Government provides $30,600 in community grants across the Kimberley
- Communities in Broome, Derby, Beagle Bay, Halls Creek and Djarindjin to benefit
The State Government will fund projects to support victims of domestic violence, promote social inclusion, education, community health and wellbeing through the Water Corporation's West Kimberley Community Grants Scheme.
The Water Corporation has partnered with the Lions Club of Broome to provide a total of $30,600 in grants to six not-for-profit groups and schools across the Kimberley.
The grants scheme is one of a kind, funded by proceeds of the sale of Rhodes grass hay produced at the Water Corporation's Broome North Wastewater Treatment Plant, as an environmentally sustainable way of recycling wastewater.

"Congratulations to the six recipients of the latest round of Water Corporation's West Kimberley Community Grants Scheme.
"In Broome, grants will go towards a program to support victims of domestic violence and to establish 'buddy benches' at the Broome Primary School, to help foster belonging, or Mabu Liyan in the local Yawuru language.
"Sacred Heart School in Beagle Bay will create a nature garden for students to learn about edible, waterwise gardens. Similar gardens will be installed at Derby and Halls Creek high schools, as part of the program to encourage Aboriginal girls to better engage with education.
"Following the sustainability theme, Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation will use its grant to provide fruit trees to families to grow and share produce.
"Derby Dance Group will purchase new equipment for classes, which will be installed at the local recreation centre to benefit the whole community.
"The $30,600 of funding through this round of grants brings the total provided since 2016 to $111,721 – which has enabled 20 projects which benefit the community to be rolled out across the Kimberley."

To promote inclusion by installing 'buddy benches' around the school, and work with a professional Aboriginal artist to develop artwork around the concept of belonging, or 'Mabu Liyan.'
The artwork will be used on the buddy bench, shirts, posters and furniture to further promote inclusion and a sense of belonging for students.
