Splashing colour across Calista

Painted layers of brightly coloured birds and wildflowers have transformed an everyday Water Corporation pump station, located in Calista in the City of Kwinana, into a thing of beauty.

Local artist Vanessa Liebenberg engaged with Calista Primary School Year 4 students to workshop their connection to water, which was valuable input for her final artwork.

Water Corporation Customer and Community General Manager Karen Willis said it was wonderful to see the extent of community engagement and participation that had been undertaken to bring this pump station to life for the entire community to enjoy.

“I am pleased Calista Primary School students were able to shape the design on the pump station located near their school, on the corner of Gilmore Avenue and Barrick Road,” she said.



“The Splash of Colour program continues to enhance the liveability and vibrancy of local neighbourhoods while educating the community about the impacts of climate change and the importance of conserving water for generations to come.”

Local artist Vanessa Liebenberg said she was excited and honoured to be part of the project and to have the community involved with the design process.

“It was wonderful to work with the students at Calista Primary School and to hear their thoughts and passion about water conservation,” she said.

“The drawings and patterns they created were lovely and made my job of incorporating them into the design fun and easy.”

So far, 42 pump stations and electrical cabinets in Western Australia have been transformed through Water Corporation’s Splash of Colour program.

The Splash of Colour Program was first trialled in the South West in 2017 and has since expanded as far north as Broome and south to Albany.
