A popular laneway in the town centre of Kulin is receiving a makeover above and below the ground, with Water Corporation and the Shire of Kulin carrying out upgrades.

Water Corporation replaced a section of water main located underneath the laneway, to coincide with a major upgrade of the road surface by the Shire.

Water Corporation Great Southern Regional Manager, Adrian Stewart, said work was completed within one week, minimising disruption to the community.

“The laneway between Gordon Street and High Street is well-used by the Kulin community, so we collaborated with the Shire to align our work to happen before a major upgrade of the road surface to minimise inconvenience for the local community,” Mr Stewart said.

“We replaced a 220 metre section of water main underneath the laneway. The Shire’s works team carried out civil work on the project, such as digging trenches, traffic management and reinstatements while we replaced the pipe.

“Now the water main has been replaced, the Shire will complete its upgrade of the laneway. This partnership was a great example of how we work with Local Government to deliver important projects to benefit our communities.”

Shire of Kulin Chief Executive Officer, Noel Mason, said collaboration was important.

“The replacement of the water main was critical to future improvements to the laneway which will now be sealed in the high use areas,” Mr Mason said.

“We thank the Water Corporation for their collaboration on this project.”
