Project to secure Norsemans water supplies starting soon

• The Water Corporation will soon start work on a new $6.5 million water tank in the Goldfields-Esperance town of Norseman   
• New tank to store up to four million litres of water
• The McGowan Government plans to invest $36.3 million in water and wastewater infrastructure in the Goldfields and Agricultural Region in 2018-19 

Those travelling along the Eyre Highway into Norseman will soon notice the Water Corporation starting work on a new water tank for the town.

The $6.5 million tank will be able to store up to four million litres of water - the equivalent of almost 1.8 Olympic swimming pools of water.

The new tank will replace the Norseman Reservoir and will provide a more secure storage for the town's water. The project will also include construction of associated water mains to connect the tank to the water supply scheme.

The tank will be located about two kilometres north-east of Norseman along the Eyre Highway, with work expected to start this month and be completed in mid-2019. 

Norseman has formed part of the Goldfields and Agricultural Water Supply Scheme since 1935, when the scheme was extended by 163 kilometres from Coolgardie to cater for the expanded gold mining industry and growth in the town.

Water for the Goldfields and Agricultural Water Supply Scheme is supplied from Mundaring Weir in the Perth Hills, which includes water sourced from dams, desalination and groundwater.

"This follows a project completed last year where the State Government replaced 1.2 kilometres of water main, improving the reliability of water supply for the community.

"Contractor Valmec will carry out the work on behalf of the Water Corporation and expects 25 Western Australian workers will be employed, including four local sub-contractors.
