Water Corporation will soon start work to replace 2.4 kilometres of water main on Albany Highway between McMillan and Alday Streets in the Town of Victoria Park.

Work to replace the water main will be carried out in a staged approach between July and November, starting at Baillie Avenue and Sussex Street the week of 9 July 2018.

Water Corporation spokesperson Clare Lugar said to ensure the safety of workers, road users and pedestrians, sections of the northbound lanes of Albany Highway would be closed while work was under way. The southbound lanes will remain open.

“There will be traffic detours in place and we will ensure access to footpaths and local businesses will be maintained at all times,” Ms Lugar said.

“We thank the community and road users for its patience and cooperation while this essential work is carried out.”

“This work is part of our Pipes for Perth program, which also included the replacement of 1.2 kilometres of water main on Albany Highway between Armagh and McMillian Streets in 2017.

“Replacing older water mains reduces the likelihood of breaks and leaks in our water mains and will help ensure a reliable water supply for residents and businesses in the area for decades to come.

“Water Corporation will work closely with businesses and local residents to minimise disruption where possible over the next five months.”

Since 2016, Water Corporation’s Pipes for Perth program has replaced over 110 kilometres of water mains in the older suburbs of Perth.

Many of these water mains have been supplying drinking water to homes and businesses in Perth for over a century.
