Project to renew century old water mains along Mount Street
Water Corporation will soon start work to replace 100-year-old cast iron water mains along Mount Street in West Perth.
Water Corporation spokesperson Clare Lugar said two new water mains would be installed along a 400 metre section of Mount Street, between Kings Park and the Mitchell Freeway.
“The original water mains were installed along Mount Street around 100 years ago and like anything of that age, they are starting to show some wear and tear,” Ms Lugar said.
“That is why we are proactively replacing these water mains to provide a reliable water supply to local residents for decades to come.
“We will continue to work closely with local residents and businesses to minimise disruption over the coming months
“We thank the community and road users for their patience and cooperation while this essential work is carried out.”
Work is expected to take around five months to complete.
Since 2016, Water Corporation’s Pipes for Perth program has replaced more than 110 kilometres of water mains in the older suburbs of Perth.
Many of these water mains have been supplying drinking water to homes and businesses in Perth for over a century.
