New water main for Roe Street in Northbridge
Water Corporation will soon start work to replace 1.4 kilometres of water main on Roe Street, between the Mitchell Freeway and Stirling Street in Northbridge.
Water Corporation spokesperson Clare Lugar, said the work would start in mid-July and was expected to take about four months to complete.
“Work will start in Northbridge at the Mitchell Freeway end of Roe Street and will progress in a staged approach towards Stirling Street,” Ms Lugar said.
“This essential work forms part of our Pipes for Perth program, which will ensure a reliable water supply to businesses and residents in the area for decades to come.
“Water Corporation will work closely with local businesses to minimise disruption throughout the project.
“To ensure the safety of workers, road users and pedestrians, sections of the eastbound lane of Roe Street will be temporarily closed while work is under way.
“When this occurs, a detour will be in place and access to footpaths and businesses will be maintained at all times.
“We thank the community and road users for their patience and cooperation while this essential work is carried out.”
Work to locate underground services will begin from 7pm on Friday, 13 July from 7pm until 6am on Monday, 16 July 2018. The following road closures will apply:
- Intersection of Fitzgerald Street and Roe Street
- Intersection of Melbourne Street and Roe Street
- Intersection of Lake Street and Roe Street
Since 2016, Water Corporation’s Pipes for Perth program has replaced more than 110 kilometres of water mains in the suburbs of Perth.
Many of these water mains have been supplying drinking water to homes and businesses in Perth for over a century.
