Water Corporation sends its congratulations to West Perth champion and retired employee Allan Melvyn ‘Mel’ Whinnen MBE for his induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Mr Whinnen started his career with the Metropolitan Water Supply Sewerage and Drainage Board in 1969, which many years later became the Water Corporation.

Before he retired in 2003 he was Manager of Engineering and Technical Services – a position he had held for several years.

Water Corporation Acting Chief Executive Officer Ross Hughes said he was delighted to hear that Mr Whinnen had been inducted.

“Mel’s leadership on the field translated across into his work life, and the attributes that have seen him inducted – brilliance, tenacity, durability and scrupulous fairness – are exactly what he brought to his role in the water industry,” Mr Hughes said.

“There are many people at the Water Corporation today who fondly remember working with Mel and he is certainly known as one of our legends.

“On behalf of the Water Corporation we congratulate Mel - we’re proud he has been recognised in the Hall of Fame.”
