Margaret River Independent School celebrates 10 years of waterwise education
Margaret River Independent School was recognised for a decade of dedication to being waterwise, presented with a certificate and waterwise plant at a special school assembly today to mark the occasion.
Through Water Corporation’s Waterwise Schools Program, teachers at the school have educated students over the past 10 years on the need to value, protect and conserve water.
Water Corporation South West Regional Manager John Janssen said it was wonderful to see students dedicated to supporting the important waterwise message and taking small steps for positive change.
“Our water supplies continue to be impacted by climate change, so it’s important the next generation understand the value of water and adopt waterwise behaviours,” Mr Janssen said.
“We hope the Waterwise Schools Program continues to inspire students to develop a positive, life-long commitment to sustainable water use.
“Thank you Margaret River Independent School for your dedication to the Waterwise Schools Program – we look forward to the next 10 years.”
Margaret River Independent School Principal Wendy Roediger said education played an important role in helping create waterwise communities.
“We’re proud of our many sustainable school initiatives, and 10 years as a Waterwise School is a proud milestone and highlight,” Ms Roediger said.
“Students are well versed in water saving habits at school and in the home, and have a true appreciation of water as a valuable resource.
“It has highlighted the important role schools and communities play in helping to conserve water in our environment.”
