Local Aboriginal artist and students make a stunning Splash in Lynwood

A cluster of dull Water Corporation electrical cabinets near Bannister Creek Primary School in Lynwood have received a colourful makeover thanks to a local Aboriginal artist, students and Water Corporation's Splash of Colour community arts program.  

The State Government, through Water Corporation, is transforming everyday water and wastewater pump stations and electrical cabinets into vibrant pieces of community art through its Splash of Colour program.

Local Aboriginal artist Justin Martin worked with Bannister Creek Primary School Year 4 and 5 students to devise an artistic concept for the community artwork, located in Purley Park.

Mr Martin treated students to dreamtime stories passed down through generations, and explained the six Noongar seasons and how they represent land and nature at different times of the year.

Students then drew an array of animals known to live in or along the banks of the local Canning River, including turtles, frogs, dragon flies and egrets – many of which are depicted in the final artwork. 

So far, 41 Water Corporation electrical cabinets and pump stations across the State have been transformed into meaningful artistic creations through the Splash of Colour program.
