Investment in Geraldton water supply scheme

• The Water Corporation to install new water main to improve water supply to Northampton and the northern suburbs of Geraldton
• Project will support about 50 Western Australian jobs
• McGowan Government plans to invest $56.9 million in water and wastewater infrastructure in the Mid West region in 2018-19.

The State Government has recently begun work on a $10.8 million project to improve the reliability of the water supply for the northern suburbs of Geraldton.

A new 10.7 kilometre water supply main will be built from a pump station along Edward Road in Meru, connecting to the existing water tank off Chapman Valley Road in Moresby known to locals as the Nanson Road Tank.

The main will improve water supply to Northampton and the northern Geraldton suburbs of Morseby, Waggrakine, Glenfield, Drummond Cove, White Peak and Buller.

The project will be carried out in two stages and is expected to be complete in late 2018. The first stage of the work will involve constructing the majority of the water main within road reserves along Chapman Valley Road, Webber Road, Fairfax Road, Polo Road and Edward Road. This work will be undertaken by WBHO Infrastructure Pty Ltd, a local Geraldton-based company.

The second stage of the project is expected to begin in October and involves drilling two sections of water main under the Chapman River. This work will be undertaken by Perth-based company Power on Cabling.

Local residents along the pipe route will be provided with advanced notice regarding any interruptions to water supply as part of this work.
