Water Corporation will soon begin work to refurbish wastewater pipes in West Leederville to extend the life of this important infrastructure by at least 50 years.

Water Corporation spokesperson, Clare Lugar, said the projects formed part of an ongoing program to reline and refurbish wastewater pipes across the State.

“Around 400 metres of wastewater pipe will be refurbished over the next four weeks,’’ Ms Lugar said.

“Work will be in the vicinity of Northwood Street, Kimberley Street and Lake Monger Drive.”

Ms Lugar explained trenchless technology would be used to reline the wastewater pipes wherever possible, including under Lake Monger Drive.

“We use trenchless technology to reline wastewater pipes where possible, to minimise the impact on the community by reducing the need for extensive excavation,” Ms Lugar said.

“The community may notice an increase in activity along impacted pipeline routes, however traffic management will be in place at all times and disruption will be kept to a minimum.

“I thank the community for its patience while we carry out this essential work.’’

The refurbishment project will be completed around late July 2018.

Water Corporation is also in the final stages of Pipes for Perth projects in West Leederville, with work expected to be completed in the coming weeks. Around 5 kilometres of 100 year old water mains have been replaced over the past seven months, to improve the security and reliability of the water supply for the local community.
