  • Residents in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kambalda, and Coolgardie encouraged to participate in free Showerhead Swap program
  • Up to 20,000 litres of water can be saved per householder per year by upgrading inefficient showerheads
  • Offer available until 31 May 2023 or while stocks last

Water Minister Dave Kelly is encouraging Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kambalda, and Coolgardie residents to swap inefficient showerheads for waterwise alternatives as part of the 2022-23 Waterwise Towns program.

The annual Water Corporation program helps regional households save water by reminding residents to check their water appliances for leaks and upgrade to water-efficient fixtures.

Under the Showerhead Swap program, residents can replace up to two inefficient fixtures with WELS 4-star rated showerheads which use only 7.5 litres of water per minute and can save households up to 20,000 litres of water per year.

In 2021-22, 75 Goldfields households took advantage of the Showerhead Swap program, exchanging 96 showerheads and helping save 1.5 million litres of water.

Since 2013-14, the State-wide Waterwise Towns program has saved approximately 1.7 billion litres of precious water across regional communities, which is equivalent to 756 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

The offer is available until 31 May 2023, or while stocks last. For more information or to apply, visit https://www.watercorporation.com.au/waterwiseoffers.

Comments attributed to Water Minister Dave Kelly:

"The Showerhead Swap program has proven hugely successful in previous years, with more than 12 million litres of water saved across regional communities in 2021-22 alone.

"Saving water is up to all of us, and the Waterwise Towns program is one way the State Government - through Water Corporation - is making it easier for regional Western Australians to be as water efficient as possible."

Comments attributed to Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:

"Showers make up almost 22 per cent of total household water use, so I was pleased to see 75 Goldfields residents participate in the Showerhead Swap last year to help save 1.5 million litres of water.

"One of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce consumption is by installing water-efficient fixtures, so I'd like to encourage residents to take advantage of the offer again this year."
