Floreat Park Primary School celebrates 20 years of waterwise education

Floreat Park Primary School celebrated two decades of commitment to helping educate students about the importance of being waterwise at a special school assembly today.

Through Water Corporation’s Waterwise Schools Program, over the past 20 years  teachers have been educating students on the need to value, protect and conserve precious water.

To celebrate the milestone, students were treated with a visit from Water Corporation’s leak detection dog, Kep.

During the visit, students learned about how Water Corporation’s four-legged water crusader has been trained to sniff out water leaks across the State.

Kep’s nifty leak detection skills help save nearly 300 million litres of precious drinking water each year – that’s around 130 Olympic swimming pools.

Water Corporation Customer and Community General Manager Karen Willis thanked the school for supporting the waterwise message.

“It’s fantastic to see students taking steps, no matter how big or small, to help save water and make a positive difference for generations to come,” Mrs Willis said.

“Climate change is one of the biggest challenges we face, so it’s important the next generation is aware of just how precious water is to ensure we have a sustainable water future.

“Thank you to teachers and students at Floreat Park Primary School for your dedication to Water Corporation’s Waterwise Schools Program – we look forward to the next 20 years.”

Floreat Park Primary School Waterwise School Coordinator Rob Cottam said, through the program, students had learned to become more waterwise.

“Since becoming a waterwise school, students have become more aware of the value of water,” he said.
