Enjoy your visit and follow the rules at Harvey Dam

Water Corporation and the Shire of Harvey are reminding those fishing and recreating at Harvey Dam to follow the rules to ensure all visitors can enjoy a happy and safe experience.

It follows an increase in the number of people ignoring warning signs which prohibit power boats, camping, fires, firearms, and drones. 

Water Corporation Southwest Regional Manager Nicky Waite said new signage had been installed to educate visitors.

“Our dams provide excellent recreation space but it’s important people do the right thing when visiting to ensure the experience is pleasant for everyone,” Ms Waite said.

“This includes taking rubbish when leaving and remembering the facilities at the dam are for day use only. We also ask drivers to please stay in the designated areas and stay off the dam banks.”

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s Southern Region Compliance Director Noel Chambers said marron season would run from Midday on 8 January to noon on 5 February only, but compliance officers regularly checked Harvey Dam throughout the year.

Shire of Harvey President Councillor Paul Gillett echoed the reminder and encouraged everyone to do the right thing when visiting the dam to make it a safe and fun place to visit.

“Unfortunately, we continue to see members of our community littering, camping and lighting fires,” Councillor Gillet said.
