Students at East Kimberley College received $1,986 in funding from the Kimberley Community Grants, to create a sustainable hydroponics garden. It has enabled the students to grow fresh produce and gain hands-on experience about waterwise agriculture, science and biology.

Produce from the garden is sold to the school’s canteen for lunches. Any excess produce not required by the students or the school canteen is donated to the Kununurra Community Kitchen, which provides meals to those less fortunate.

The hydroponics system has provided a great learning tool for science as well as social enterprise. The garden is self-sustaining and will be available to students for years to come.
