Dardanup Primary School celebrates a decade of waterwise education

Dardanup Primary School celebrated 10 years enrolled in Water Corporation’s Waterwise Schools Program at a special assembly today.

Over the last decade teachers at the school have been educating students on the need to value, protect and conserve water resources.

Water Corporation South West Regional Manager, John Janssen, thanked the school for sharing the waterwise message.

“In our drying climate it’s important our next generation understand the value of water and are adopting waterwise behaviours to use less water in their daily lives,” Mr Janssen said.

“Through our Waterwise Schools Program we hope all students develop a positive life-long commitment to sustainable water use.

“Dardanup Primary School has put in place some incredible initiatives to help students build this appreciation - both inside the classroom and on the school site. This is a great example of how to embed being waterwise in every aspect of school life.

“Thank you to students and teachers at Dardanup Primary School for your dedication to the Waterwise Schools Program – we look forward to the next 10 years.”

Dardanup Primary School Principal, Melanie Clark, said learning about the value of water and how to conserve it was incredibly important to the community. 

“Since becoming Waterwise School 10 years ago, students’ awareness of the value of water has been raised and we have worked to reduce our use,” Ms Clark said.

“We are currently setting targets to further reduce our use through our student monitoring programs and renewed gardening programs.  Students are even comparing water use in the home and how it is used at school to investigate ways to further reduce their us.”

Other activities carried out by the school included checking all taps and water outlets at the school, installing rainwater tanks and keeping the school grounds clean to ensure stormwater run-off is litter free.
