Water Corporation will be conducting night work on Marine Parade from 10pm to 6am on Wednesday, 24 and Thursday, 25 August 2022, to perform some essential maintenance.

As part of our investigations into the sewer main along Marine Parade, we identified a further small section of pipe, south of the Marine Parade and Napier Street intersection, that needs repaired.

This preventive maintenance needs to be conducted overnight when wastewater flows are at their lowest. Tankers will be used to transport flows of wastewater from the area, to allow the repair to be undertaken, so there will be increased activity in the area overnight.

It is anticipated the work will require the temporary overnight closure of the northbound lane of Marine Parade in the vicinity of the immediate work area only. Northbound traffic will be diverted along Forrest, Broome and Napier streets with the southbound lane remaining open.

Unfortunately, the wet weather has delayed the reinstatement of Car Park One, with most of the reinstatements in the main work site now due to be completed by Friday, 26 August 2022, weather permitting.

Updates will be provided on the Marine Parade repairs webpage.

We apologise for any inconvenience this night work may cause and thank the community for their patience and understanding while we complete this essential work.

Update as at: 12:30, 8 August 2022

The northbound lane of Marine Parade has reopened following completion of emergency repairs to a damaged sewer main.

Temporary fencing remains in place while Water Corporation continues reinstatement of the work site, which is expected to be completed by next Friday (19 August).

The area to be reinstated had five parking bays along Marine Parade (opposite Warnham Road), of which four were impacted. At the request of the Town of Cottesloe, to align with the approved Cottesloe Foreshore Masterplan specifications, the four bays are being reinstated with kerbing and garden beds. Other areas will be reinstated on a like-for-like basis.

Updates will be provided on the Marine Parade repairs webpage.

We would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the local community and Town of Cottesloe for their patience and understanding during the emergency works.

Update as at: 15:30, 18 July 2022

Water Corporation will be conducting night work on Marine Parade this Wednesday and Thursday (20 and 21 July), weather permitting, to safely reconnect the sewer main to the wastewater network.

The work, from 10pm to 6am each night, must be done overnight when wastewater flows are at their lowest.

Last week, the damaged section of sewer was relined with a bespoke PVC liner to extend its expected lifespan by around 50 years.

If the night work progresses as planned, the above-ground bypass pipework along Marine Parade will then be progressively removed over the following days. Repairs are expected to be completed and the northbound lane of Marine Parade reopened by Monday, 15 August 2022.

Noise and odours from the location will be carefully monitored but any issues can be reported to Water Corporation’s 24-hour Faults, Emergencies and Security line on 13 13 75.

Updates will be provided on the Marine Parade repairs webpage.

We thank the community for their ongoing patience and cooperation while this essential work takes place.

Update as at: 16:30, 5 July 2022

Technical difficulties repairing a damaged sewer main on Marine Parade is expected to delay the reopening of the northbound lane until Monday, 15 August 2022. Water Corporation apologises for this delay and appreciates the ongoing patience of the Cottesloe community.

Water Corporation’s contractor had planned to complete the relining of the damaged sewer after reopening the road. However, to mitigate the risk of a reoccurrence of the technical issue with its associated delays and to ensure the safety of crews working on the relining, it has been determined the northbound lane must remain closed while this work is undertaken.

Northbound traffic on Marine Parade continues to be diverted along Forrest, Broome and Napier streets with the southbound lane remaining open.

Drivers should use Forrest Street, unless local access to Car Park One is required. Businesses along Marine Parade remain open.

Once the six-metre-deep sewer main has been successfully relined, two nights of overnight work (expected from 25 July) will be required to safely connect the relined section to the existing sewer network when wastewater flows are at their lowest.

The temporary above-ground bypass pipework along Marine Parade will then be removed with the area currently expected to be reinstated by Friday, 19 August 2022.

Water Corporation and its contractor would like to sincerely apologise for this further delay to the reopening of Marine Parade. We appreciate the inconvenience and disruption these emergency works have caused, so are grateful to the local community and the Town of Cottesloe for their ongoing patience and support.

Updates will be provided on the Marine Parade repairs webpage.

Any issues can be reported to its 24-hour Faults, Emergencies and Security line on 13 13 75.

Update as at: 14:00, 14 June 2022

The northbound lane of Marine Parade adjacent to Car Park One is now expected to reopen to traffic from Friday, 8 July 2022 following a one-week delay to repairs on a damaged sewer main on Marine Parade.

The small delay follows difficulties cleaning the full length of the six-metre-deep sewer ahead of relining work.

In the interim, northbound traffic on Marine Parade continues to be diverted along Forrest, Broome and Napier streets with the southbound lane remaining open.

Drivers should use Forrest Street, unless local access to Car Park One is required. Businesses along Marine Parade remain open.

Repairs to the damaged sewer will continue after the road has reopened using trenchless technology to reline the pipe between access chambers (manholes), which will require a much smaller physical footprint within Car Park One.

Once the sewer main has been relined, the temporary above-ground bypass pipework along Marine Parade will be removed with the area currently expected to be reinstated by end of July 2022.

We would like to apologise for the delay in reopening the northbound lane of Marine Parade and for the inconvenience and disruption during these repair works. We do appreciate the ongoing patience and support of the local community and the Town of Cottesloe.

Updates will be provided on the Marine Parade repairs webpage.

Any issues can be reported to its 24-hour Faults, Emergencies and Security line on 13 13 75.

Further night work on Marine Parade will take place overnight on Tuesday (3 May) as part of ongoing emergency works to repair a damaged sewer main.

The night work will be from 10pm Tuesday, 3 May until 5am Wednesday, 4 May.

The work to clear a major blockage needs to be completed at night when wastewater flows are at their lowest, so crews can safely enter the access chambers (manholes). Tankers will be used to manage wastewater flows during this time.

In addition, crews will be isolating the damaged section from the rest of the sewer main, enabling its safe excavation.

Traffic management – northbound lane closure (from 9 May till late June)

The next stage of the emergency repairs will be the main excavation of the damaged section – which is six metres deep – that will require the temporary closure of the northbound lane of Marine Parade adjacent to Car Park One.

Excavations are currently scheduled to commence from 7am on Monday, 9 May with the northbound lane expected to remain closed until late June.

The actual duration of the lane closure depends on the repair methodology, which will be determined after the site has been excavated and the full length of the sewer cleaned and surveyed.

The southbound lane on Marine Parade will be open and, as before, a traffic detour will be in place for northbound traffic with the traffic management plan available on the Water Corporation Marine Parade repairs webpage (and see map below).

Emergency night works (6 April)

Water Corporation will be conducting emergency night works on Marine Parade tomorrow evening (from 11pm Wednesday, 6 April, to 5am Thursday, 7 April) to safely connect a temporary bypass around a damaged sewer main.

The work needs to be completed at night to isolate and drain the sewer main when wastewater flows are at their lowest, so crews can safely enter the access chambers (manholes) to connect the bypass pipework at either end of Car Park One.

Tankers will be used to manage wastewater flows along Marine Parade during this time, discharging into an access chamber further north between Eric and Grant streets.

Once the temporary bypass is installed, work will then commence on the permanent repair of the sewer main with timeframes yet to be determined.

Traffic management - temporary lane closure (5-7 April)

In addition, the northbound lane of Marine Parade adjacent to Car Park One will again be closed tomorrow and Thursday (6 and 7 April 2022) from 7am till 6pm to redirect the sewer pipeline on Warnham Road.

Traffic detours will be in place for northbound traffic, and vehicles on Warnham Road and John Street will only be able to turn left onto Marine Parade during this time. The bus stop outside Indigo Oscar is closed with northbound buses redirected along the same detour.

The community is encouraged to stay updated on the progress of the emergency works via the dedicated Marine Parade repairs webpage or in person at the Water Corporation support caravan in Car Park One (this week, 8am-4pm).
