Coodanup College recognised as a Waterwise School

Coodanup College was recognised as Western Australia’s 579^th Waterwise School as at a special assembly on Monday, 10 December 2018.

Through Water Corporation’s Waterwise Schools Program, teachers have been educating students on the need to value, protect and conserve water.

To celebrate the milestone, students were treated with a visit from Water Corporation’s leak detection dog, Kep, to learn about how she has been trained to sniff our water leaks. 

Water Corporation General Manager Customer and Community Group, Catherine Ferrari, thanked the school for supporting the waterwise message.

“Climate change continues to impact our water supplies, so it’s important the next generation are aware of how precious water is to ensure we have a sustainable water future,” Ms Ferrari said.

“Coodanup College’s has embedded water literacy education across all learning areas, so students have a better understanding of water and the importance of water conservation.

“Thank you to students and teachers at Coodanup College for your dedication to the Waterwise Schools Program.”

Coodanup College Waterwise Schools Program Coordinator, Megan Cousins, said a Water Project undertaken by Year 7 classes at the school resulted in students making valuable links between curriculum concepts, and the importance of water conservation at home and at school.

“Students were asked to complete water-related activities across each learning area, providing them with the learning tools needed to establish a deeper meaning from the curriculum content,” Miss Cousins said.
