Community helps make a colourful splash in Westminster
- Exciting new Splash of Colour project in Westminster captures local connection to water and its significance to the community
- The Water Corporation pump station is one of 40 electrical cabinets and pump stations to be transformed into public artwork
An everyday Water Corporation pump station in Westminster has been transformed into an artistic masterpiece that captures local and cultural perspectives on water use, flora and fauna and the local water story.
The State Government, through the Water Corporation, delivered the exciting, community focused Splash of Colour project in partnership with Community Arts Network.
This new partnership provided an opportunity to closely engage with local communities in the design and development of mural artworks in their neighbourhood.
Local artist Lawry Halden led the artistic transformation with the mural showcasing local fauna including the motorbike frog, western swamp tortoise and marron.
Creative engagement sessions were held with local community groups, including Edmund Rice Centre and Whitelion to ensure the artwork was truly representative of the neighbourhood where the pump station is located.
Community participants also exercised their artistic skills during painting sessions on the Harris Way Pump Station, leaving a lasting impression for years to come.
So far, 40 Water Corporation electrical cabinets and pump stations across the State have been transformed into community artworks through the Splash of Colour program.
