Century old water mains to be replaced in Northbridge and Perth

Water Corporation will soon begin work to replace 2.7 kilometres of water mains in parts of Northbridge and Perth under its Pipes for Perth program.

Work will be carried out in stages to minimise impacts on the community and businesses, with the project expected to be completed in June 2019.

Water Corporation General Manager Assets Delivery, Nathan Hardwick, thanked the local community and road users in advance for their patience. 

“Many of the water mains in Northbridge and Perth are some of the oldest across the city and were installed around 120 years ago, so they are coming to the end of their life,” Mr Hardwick said.

“The Pipes for Perth program reduces the likelihood of bursts and helps to ensure a reliable water supply for residents and businesses in the area for decades to come.

“We will work closely with businesses and residents to minimise disruption where possible throughout the work.”

Work will start next week along Pier Street, between Moore and Newcastle Street, and continue along:

Northbridge:

• Nash Street, at Aberdeen Street – work to start February 2019

• James Street, between Beaufort Street and Pier Street – work to start February 2019

• Aberdeen Street, between Pier Street and Lord Street – work to start February 2019

• Shenton Street, between James Street and Aberdeen Street – work to start March 2019

• Melbourne Street, between Moore Street and Newcastle Street – work to start March 2019

• William Street, between Roe Street and Newcastle Street – work to start April / May 2019

Perth:

• Victoria Avenue, between Riverside Drive and Victoria Square – work to start late February 2019

• Victoria Square, between Victoria Avenue and Royal Perth Hospital– work to start late February 2019
