Broome North Primary School get creative with a mural at Cable Beach
Broome North Primary School received $10,000 in funding towards creating a mural at Cable Beach as part of the Kimberley Community Grants.
Students and their families took part in the project to transform a water tank along Cable Beach esplanade into a stunning mural, celebrating the local community’s unique birdlife and waterways. The mural aims to create more community awareness about the importance of water to local wildlife.
Through the project, students also learned about how we help support Broome’s incredibly diverse wildlife by providing a bird-friendly water habitat at its two wastewater treatment facilities.
The mural features 7 different types of local birds including the Black-tailed Godwit, White-bellied Sea-eagle and Black-necked Stork. Perth-based artist Mel McVee created the designs for the mural and worked with the students and their families to take it from concept to reality.

Round 7 of Kimberley Community Grants has now closed. We will be announcing the recipients for 2021 by early July.
