[Voiceover]: Declining rainfall driven by climate change, together with a growing population, means WA will soon need a new major water source.

To help reduce our dependency on rainfall and groundwater and ensure secure, sustainable drinking water for the future, the State Government, through Water Corporation, is preparing to deliver a new seawater desalination plant.

The proposed plant will be on Water Corporation land, hidden behind built-up, vegetated sand dunes.

At full capacity, the plant will be able to supply 100 billion litres of clean, safe drinking water each year, and will be powered with renewable energy. WA already has two advanced desalination plants which provide nearly half the drinking water to homes and business across Perth and some regional areas.

It’s been many years since we could rely on rainfall alone for our drinking water. A new seawater desalination plant will help address the impact of climate change and support a strong state economy and green, liveable communities.

The State Government, through Water Corporation, is planning ahead to meet the future water needs of all Western Australians.
